As very proud parents, we are posting our 'beautiful' baby's photo here to make you ooh and aw...I know it is crazy, but it is something that other proud parents will understand!
Friday was our first scan (ultrasound). We arrived a little late cuz we had never been to the hospital before. On the way there, a bird flew over head and decided to leave a deposit in my hair! yuk!!! (That is just by the way) I had a very full bladder cuz the appointment letter had said it was necessary for a good picture. I was bursting to go to the loo (bathroom) but had to wait in the waiting room for the scanning room to be free. Finally, we were called in. I duely laid on the table and Tico sat on the chair between the bed and the monitor. Up to this point, I have never felt my baby move, I always read about the development of fetus so I know more or less what size it is and what it's developing this week, etc....but NOTHING could have prepared me for what I saw on that screen!!! It was a perfect little image of a baby....squirming and swimming about. Little arms were flailing, little legs were kicking and it was hard to get a good still shot cuz the little one didn't stop long enough. This made my pregnancy so real...there is a real live person inside me. I mean Tico always kisses my belly and talks to it. (He has a very unique and rather loud voice...so I am pretty sure that if baby can hear, she/he can always tell when daddy's around! ;-)) But...even so, it was all a bit 'make-believe' until we saw that little image on the screen. It was amazing. We were amazed at the delicate perfection we saw. God is truely amazing!!! I asked the nurse (or whatever she is) how big the baby actually is and she said around 6 centimeters! That is about the size of my cellphone! Such perfection in miniture! Daddy asked about the sex of the baby but we were told it is too early to tell. But he pretty much figured it out....by...the nose! I know, I was surprised, too...it is a new technique, I guess. He said her nose is delicate like mine, so it is a girl (that was a nice thing to say about my nose). The nurse measured the head, showed us the heartbeat and said that I was officially 13 weeks and 1 day pregnant! She said all the measurements look good for that age fetus and she was pretty impressive cuz she managed to seem excited about our baby, even though I am quite sure she had seen numerous little babies on her screen that day! But she made us feel special and happy that we were experiencing the miracle of parenthood. We paid the suggested donation of £1.00 and were able to take away 3 little photos of our baby. And Tico even took a shot of the screen with his cellphone. None of them are as impressive as the real live, active thing, but they are all we have to go on for now. I still can't feel my baby but I know she/he is there and I pretty much know where she/he is...so daddy and I pat her/him quite often throughout the day...maybe more to reassure ourselves than her/him. ;-)
You know what came to mind when I saw that baby on screen...our baby? I knew he/she existed before that. I knew her/his approximate age, size, weight, etc. But the moment I saw him/her, it all came true....like seeing a cartoon of a real person and then meeting the real person...seeing the likeness and realising it is what the cartoon portrays it to be...but suddenly understanding it and knowing it in a more real way. And that made me think of the first time I will see Jesus. All my life I have heard about him, read about him in the Bible, sang about him, told people what he is like and even talked to him in my heart. I believe he exists...but imagine the absolute burst of emotions which will happen the day I see him for real...the day my faith becomes reality and I see him in all his beauty and glory! Wow! imagine the reunion...with someone you have only seen through a glass darkly...only a poor reflection like the image of my baby made by sound waves on that ultrasound screen...
That helps me to remember that as amazing as I know God to be now, it is only a small portion of how he REALLY is. My mind cannot grasp it until I see...and yet I grasp the concept only by faith....until that day...
So we wait...for another 6 months to see our treasure and another who-knows-how long until that special and beautiful day when we shall know and be known in all intricacy and detail.
